I'm Off

On this very day last year, at this very time, I was perched somewhere over the Southern hemisphere, zeroing in on Buenos Aires. I remember my first impressions of the city. The landing strip was overrun and so we hovered for some 45 minutes. Buenos Aires lay all lit up below, ominous and inviting at once. I sat, a bit paralyzed by the size of it, struggling to identify points of recognition as we looped again and again. I wondered where my particular place in that city would be. Would I find it warm, welcoming, inviting? Would I find my nest?

Today I sit in Newark Airport with the same anticipation, this time awaiting a departure for Paris. I'm not sure what it is about the 15th of October, or whether I was aware of its significance when I chose this date back in June. We shall see...
