From time to time, I have nothing to write about.. whether all talked out or unsure of the merit of my thoughts translated into arc and letter, I cannot say. But I sit laconic - observing, ingesting, waiting. With the blog those periods can be scary and quite pressurized. Weeks of silence build up. The loss of momentum can be profound and seemingly interminable.
From past experience, I know that these times will eventually pass. I've learned to embrace them, knowing that it's necessary to reflect before one can project. And I've learned to turn lights on in other rooms of the house, exploring alternative outlets such as photography, dance, even how I put myself together in the morning. They are all forms of expression; one inevitably feeds the next and I'm back to writing once again.
These moments without words are often marked by melody, by a particular song that resonates with me for one reason or another - the composition, the rhyme, the overall spirit. I sing it, sing it, sing it until I am done with it and I am ready to write again. So, in support of the creative process, I thought I'd share the anthem for this particularly bashful period.
"Tres Letrinhas" by Marisa Monte.
