Rainy Cape
This morning I woke up to a whipping storm. So much for days of bronzing and biking here on the Cape. Seems I'll be reading, writing and snuggling instead. I couldn't be happier, this Summer has me exhausted.
In preparation for the Fall, I've been brainstorming ways to expand and better my writing. This morning I thought I'd try a little fiction. Here's an excerpt...
Ana declined with her head, moving it East, West, then contorting her glance as she dipped further West, attempting to rid her being of the desire to nod North and South with vigor.
This moment was of no surprise, she'd called it, seen it coming months prior, knowing she'd have an incubated period of time to get her head straight. There he was and, for all of the thought and prayer and lists of pros and cons, she wasn't ready. Most dangerous of all, she was torn, tinkering over that ominous abyss of indecision in which another, perhaps without her best interest in mind, could decide her fate. Or at least the next few weeks, months, possibly years of her life. She wanted to hit pause but he was waiting, sheepishly coaxing with eyes deep and dewy.
She breathed in, letting the brisk air marinate in her lungs as she sat down primly on the tousled hillside. The coolness of the grass slowed her heart several beats per second, giving reason a chance to enter. "Leave me here, " she said, "come back in 20, please." He slowly retreated, knowing better than to object.
Ana sat, watching him recede, the blue flaps of his overcoat whipping in the wind like a makeshift mast moving into the distance, his heart too pumped to hug the renegade fabric to his ribs like a sane man would. She loved him..
